Stewart, Busch placed on probation
NASCAR has placed drivers Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch on probation for the first six races of the season, following an incident during practice last Friday at Daytona
Both former Cup champions were involved in an incident towards the end of the final practice for the Bud Shootout, where Busch retaliated to Stewart by banging his car against that of his rival several times.
Stewart tried to block Busch from going from pit road to the garages after that and then both were summoned by NASCAR officials in a closed-doors meeting, where Stewart reportedly swung at Busch.
"Well, the accident was a racing incident," said NASCAR Vice President of competition Robin Pemberton. "How they conducted themselves after the accident and coming on to pit road and from there through the rest of the evening is why the penalties are equal."
NASCAR officials declined comment on the reported clash between the drivers during their first meeting with them, although they denied the probation had anything to do with what happened off the track.
"They're both responsible for their actions on and off the track," Pemberton added. "We had a closed-door meeting, and that will continue to be closed door. We're not going to discuss what we discussed in the hauler."
The probation placed on both divers will cover all of their actions in NASCAR, including possible participation in the Nationwide Series.
