Stoner dominates final day of testing

MotoGP champion Casey Stoner finished this week's MotoGP test at Phillip Island with the quickest time for Ducati, set during a qualifying run in the morning

The Australian's best lap of 1:28.777 was well clear of the opposition and, crucially, two tenths faster than Nicky Hayden's official best lap, set back in 2006.

Stoner received a further boost to his confidence when he completed several quick laps during a race simulation late in the day, before he finished testing early.

Former MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden was second fastest, with Briton James Toseland showing further signs of progress on his Tech 3 Yamaha to set the third quickest time - just 0.020 seconds slower than Hayden.

Fellow rookie Andrea Dovizioso was fourth fastest, with Tech 3 rider Colin Edwards fifth quickest.

Chris Vermeulen finished the day sixth quickest as he continued to work on the Rizla Suzuki, while the man completing the most lap was Randy de Puniet who put in 115 laps over the course of the day.
