Ralf set to discuss DTM options
Ralf Schumacher will enter talks with Mercedes DTM boss Norbert Haug about racing in the series this season
The former Grand Prix driver completed a two-day test at Estoril last week and, although he did not confirm he wants a race deal, he did admit that he plans to at least discuss it with Haug.
He told the DTM website: "It was a good experience and a lot of fun, but what comes next remains totally open. We will talk about it."
Haug remains open to the possibility but warned that Ralf would take time to adjust to the new discipline: "DTM is completely new to him. If we did decide to co-operate he has to allow for two learning years just like any other driver.
"To come, see, and conquer straight away in DTM is impossible. But his tests were positive and he is most definitely still a top driver."
Multiple DTM champion Bernd Schneider believes Ralf would be competitive in DTM: "Ralf's recent Formula One results didn't reflect his true ability, he has got what it takes to win races."
FIA GT driver and former DTM racer Michael Bartels added: "He would have a lot of fun in DTM, but it's also hard work and he will have to really go for it to succeed."
