Clarke eyes IRL move with Panther
Champ Car racer Dan Clarke is eyeing a switch to the IRL IndyCar Series with Panther Racing
The 24-year-old Briton has spent two seasons in Champ Car but believes the IRL is a better place to work his way into a paid drive.
"The only drivers who can survive in Champ Car are the ones who have sponsors," he told Autosport. "I love racing in America and I want to start earning a living here.
"The IRL is one of the few series where drivers can get paid and you can work your way up. Sam Hornish started at Panther and moved to Penske, Ryan Briscoe has been around for a few years and now he's landed a Penske drive too."
The former British Formula Three race winner believes he could adapt well to the mainly oval-based series: "I don't think anyone could go straight to the IRL and be amazing on ovals, but I would be willing to learn.
"Most teams have driver coaches for ovals too, and the schedule has so me road courses where I would be fine."
