Webber aims to improve on 2007
Mark Webber will be happy if Red Bull Racing can simply improve on last year, as he drew short of making any bold predictions about the team's chances for 2008 at their new car launch
The Australian is entering his second season with the Renault-powered outfit and, although he took a podium at the Nurburgring and nearly won in Japan last year, he wants more from 2008.
"Do better than last year," he said, when asked about the targets for 2008. "Be more reliable, a lot more reliable than last year. That wasn't good enough.
"We want to start with a faster car if we can, because if you start with a quicker car that's a good position to start the championship in.
"And we want to get a lot more points than we got last year. We missed a lot of points through retirements, with mechanical problems so we'll see if we can get some of those points back. That would be good."
Webber added that he hoped Red Bull Racing could target BMW Sauber in the forthcoming season, but was not sure exactly whereabouts on the grid that would be.
"I think we are chasing BMW," he said. "But it could be for third or seventh. They could produce a lemon. They could be seventh. You never know in this game. It's very difficult to say.
"We won't know until the first race where everyone's cars are. I think we can hold fifth position (in the constructors' championship), but to be fourth. It's a big step for us.
"I hope we can distance ourselves from that mid pack. Qualify well in Q1, which makes it a bit easier. But it was very tight last year. I hope some teams are producing lemons in the way of a good car."
Webber said he also felt that he was driving as well as ever, even though the results last season may not have shown that to be the case.
"There's lot of guys trying to get in Formula One. It's a very challenging sport and I respect that. And I know that every race I do I want to try and do the best possible job for the team, especially delivering on Saturdays and Sundays. That's what it's about.
"Last year was one of my best seasons driving wise. We didn't get to see that in the results, but I think we got some results that were very satisfying so we hope to do that again this year. If the cars are reliable it would be good."
