Pedrosa fastest as Stoner is injured

Dani Pedrosa led the way on the second day of testing at the Jerez circuit as world champion Casey Stoner was forced to finish his work early after a big crash

Honda rider Pedrosa was the only man who managed to lap the Spanish track in less then 100 seconds, posting a best time of 1:39.993 on the Japanese bike.

The Spaniard finished less than two tenths of a second ahead of Valentino Rossi, second quickest in the Yamaha as he continued his acclimatisation to Bridgestone tyres.

The Honda Gresini team enjoyed a promising day thanks to Shinya Nakano and debutant Alex de Angelis, third and fourth quickest respectively. Rookie Andrea Dovizioso completed the top five in the JiR Scot Honda.

Stoner, quickest yesterday, was only eighth fastest after finishing his day early when he crashed heavily with his 2008 Ducati.

The Ducati rider lost control of his bike at a high speed corner and had to visit the medical centre.

The Australian suffered a shoulder injury and is almost certian to miss tomorrow's final day of testing of the year.

"Everything was going very well today," said Stoner afterwards. "We were focusing on tyre testing, as we had planned, when I crashed at turn three. I hit the ground pretty heavily with my left shoulder.

"Straight away the injury was really painful, so I went to the Clinica Mobile where they fitted me with a sling and strapped the shoulder. We will wait and see how I feel tomorrow but I think it's going to be difficult to continue this test."

Two-time 250cc world champion Jorge Lorenzo also crashed at high speed, but the Spaniard was able to continue testing and posted the 10th fastest time of the day.
