Farfus gets F1 run with BMW at Valencia
World Touring Car Championship front-runner Augusto Farfus has had his first taste of Formula One machinery at Valencia in Spain today
The Brazilian was handed the opportunity by BMW Sauber as a result of his hard efforts for the German car manufacturer this season, where he fought for the WTCC crown until the last race at Macau.
Farfus had long hoped for the chance to get behind the wheel of an F1 car, and BMW sorted out the opportunity ahead of the Formula BMW World Finals this weekend.
BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said: "In his first year, Augusto Farfus has settled extremely well into our BMW fold and is already a fully integrated member of BMW Team Germany.
"In recognition of Augusto's achievements, we want to give him the chance to test our Formula One car for a few hours in the run-up to the Formula BMW World Final.
"It also underlines our philosophy of forging links between our motor sport projects: after Jorg Muller, Dirk Muller, Andy Priaulx and Alessandro Zanardi, Augusto Farfus will be the fifth touring car driver to get behind the wheel of one of our Formula One racers."
Last year's World Finals victor Christian Vietoris also tested the BMW Sauber car today as his prize for winning the 2006 event.
