Several teams show interest in VW

Volkswagen's motorsport director Kris Nissen says that the manufacturer has had too many requests for Formula Three engines in 2008

The manufacturer made its return to the category at the Nurburgring round of the F3 Euro Series in September, and Nissen has had to turn down requests for engines for next season because they do not have the capacity to supply many teams.

"Many teams and drivers applied for co-operating with us," he said. "Unfortunately, we just couldn't invite all the interested parties to tests as there were just too many of them.

"This demonstrates that we are on a good and proper way and that people trust in us."

Nissen added that the maximum number of Volkswagen-powered cars for next year would be eight.

"We'd like to have two or three teams contesting the Euro Series season, with out goal being a total of eight cars," he said.

"As there is still some homework we have to execute, eight cars currently represents our capacity limit."

Italian outfit RC Motorsport are the only team that are currently confirmed with Volkswagen for 2008.
