Hayden disappointed season is ending

Nicky Hayden says that he is disappointed that the 2007 season is coming to an end, despite his difficult year as world champion

The American will return to the scene of his 2006 title success this weekend at Valencia, where he will be battling for eighth place in the standings with Colin Edwards.

But despite being a distant ninth in the standings after 17 races of his title defence, Hayden says that he wishes there were more races remaining this year.

"Obviously the season hasn't gone exactly as I'd have liked," said Hayden. "But actually I'm not happy the season is nearly over.

"We've had decent pace in the last few races and in some ways I wish the season was starting again, not ending."

The outgoing world champion added that his motivation was still strong heading into the final race of the year.

"It's our last chance of the season so we'll try to go out with style," he said. "I'm really looking forward to the weekend.

"It'll be my last race with the number one plate this year so I'll definitely be pushing as hard as always. To be honest I can't wait for the weekend to begin."

Hayden has not won a MotoGP race this year, and his best results of the season are three third place finishes.
