Franchitti to race in Texas
Dario Franchitti will make his second NASCAR Busch Series start at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend, Chip Ganassi Racing have announced
The race on Saturday will be Franchitti's fourth stock car start, following his ARCA outing at Talladega, Craftsman Truck race at Martinsville, and his Busch Series debut last weekend at Memphis.
Franchitti will continue to drive the No. 42 car raced by Juan Pablo Montoya earlier in the year, and he will team up again with crew chief Brian Pattie.
The 34-year-old was competitive on his Busch Series debut at Memphis last weekend, where he ran towards the front of the field during the early stages of the race.
While the Texas race will be Franchitti's first on a 1.5-mile oval, he did gain some experience of the types of track that make up a lot of the NASCAR schedule by taking part in this week's Nextel Cup Car of Tomorrow test at Atlanta.
"The test was a learning experience," said Franchitti. "I've kind of been thrown in at the deep end coming to one of the fastest mile and a half tracks having never driven a CoT or Cup car before.
"The thing I'm getting used to is fighting this car, and following people I've managed to see exactly what they're doing in the car."
