Button: Honda have learnt from 2007

Jenson Button says he is relieved his nightmare 2007 season is finally over - but he reckons it has been a good learning experience for his Honda Racing team

The British driver ended his season in Brazil with another non-finish, as the Japanese manufacturer failed to make much progress all year with its uncompetitive RA107.

Button was upbeat after the Brazilian race, however, as he said he could finally look forward to getting his hands on a better car in 2008.

"It's nice that it's over and we can put it behind us," he told autosport.com. "The car is not great and it hasn't been all year - but it's nice to get six points out of it. I was very surprised, as I didn't think we were going to score anything.

"But it's also good to have a year like this - you don't just learn from the mistakes you made but as a team you learn if the people you have around you are strong or not. And that will help us next year.

"We can't be this bad next year. It's impossible. And we've got to hope we can build a car that's quick. We're all working hard at the moment and we're going to get our heads down and get on with it."

Button said that he had also learned a great deal about himself and his driving this year.

"Driving such a tough car to start with is tough and you do hone your skills a little bit more," he said. "Being at the back, fighting at every race and trying a little bit every race, people do get negative. It's understandable - I've been negative at times.

"But you've really got to give them a moral boost and really make sure they keep their chins up because if not we'll stay here and we won't improve.

"To me, with new people coming onboard it's really helpful for the team - it's a fresh start in many ways although we take the experience both ways."
