Current teams confirmed for 2008

The GP2 Series has confirmed that the 13 teams that finished the 2007 championship will remain in the series for next year

More than 30 teams had applied for a slot in the series from 2008-2010, but championship organiser Bruno Michel says that the current teams all deserved to keep their places.

"I believe that the 13 teams of the GP2 Series have done a very good job over the last three years," he said. "This season, for example, we saw ten different teams winning races.

"At this moment I feel I should be loyal to the teams who have believed in this series from the beginning."

Michel added that some of the weaker teams from 2007 were allowed to keep their place because of their proposals for the future.

"Those teams who may in the public domain be deemed to have underperformed have committed themselves to improve their weaknesses," he said, "and I am quite confident that this will happen and make the GP2 Series even stronger than before."

However, Michel offered some hope for teams that will be looking to join the series in the future, as he said that the decisions made at the end of the first generation of GP2 will not set a precedent for the future.

"This element of promotion and relegation will be raised again at the end of the 2010 season," he said. "Just because we have decided to keep the current teams on board for the second generation does not mean the same thing will happen for the third generation.

"To those we have selected, I wish every success, but I want to thank a the teams who entered proposals and were not selected. To them I say: 'Your time will come.'"
