Franchitti to race truck at Martinsville
Dario Franchitti will continue with his NASCAR apprenticeship in two weeks' time when he races in a Craftsman Truck Series event at Martinsville Speedway
The current IRL champion successfully completed his stock car debut last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 17th in the ARCA RE/MAX Series race. He will spend this weekend off, but will return to action on October 20th at the half-mile oval to start his second stock car race.
Although Chip Ganassi Racing doesnt have a team in the truck series, they will field the No. 41 Cunningham Motorsports-owned Dodge Ram for Franchitti, which will be operated by a team led by crew chief Brian Pattie, who also worked with the Scot at Talladega Superspeedway last weekend.
Franchitti will join fellow NASCAR rookie Jacques Villeneuve in the Kroger 200 at Martinsville. The Canadian will be making his third start in the Series, but for both Indy 500 champions it will be their first ever race at the short-track in Virginia.
Last week Franchitti was announced as the driver of the No. 40 Ganassi Dodge Avenger in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup.
