Nakajima determined to enjoy debut

Kazuki Nakajima has vowed to go out and enjoy himself in the Brazilian Grand Prix after being handed his Formula One debut by Williams

The Japanese driver, who has been Williams' official test and reserve driver this season, has been drafted in as a replacement for the retiring Alexander Wurz.

And although the tricky Interlagos circuit will provide a big challenge at his first F1 race, he has made it clear that he is not going to let himself get too worried about the forthcoming event.

"This opportunity came as a result of what I have been doing this year (in tests and GP2)," Nakajima told autosport.com. "I was delighted to be told that I will be racing in Brazil.

"I am more determined to enjoy it rather than worry about it. I have plenty of time to prepare and get ready for the race.

"I will be very busy with promotions for the team once I get to Brazil, and I will be in the simulator this week. I don't think it will be easy, but I will do what I can and I will do it well."

Nakajima revealed that he was told about his Williams chance by director of engineering Patrick Head after Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix

"I was told for definite on the Sunday after the race by Patrick that I would be racing in Brazil. It shocked me a bit, although I had heard about the possibility already on the Saturday.

"I didn't know how I felt then. It didn't quite sink in, and it still has not sunk in yet."

Nakajima will use Wurz's race engineer Xevi Pujolar, and he is confident that he will be able to cope with the change of approach from test driver to race driver.

"I know what to expect from Xevi, I worked with him in Shanghai and I have done some time with him in the tests," he said. "But this time, for the first time, I will start preparing the car for myself. It does not really worry me."

Although Williams have insisted that his debut is not part of an evaluation for a 2008 race driver, Nakajima is well aware that a good performance will certainly boost his chances.

"I have to do my job really," he said. "Patrick has told me this is not a test (for next year). What I do in the next race has nothing to do with next year, this is a one race arrangement. But of course there is no harm in doing well."

And Nakajima has also said he is looking forward to speaking to team boss Frank Williams about being given the opportunity.

"I have not talked to Frank yet since it became official," he said. "I am looking forward to it. I am happy and I would like to do well."
