Audi hope for fair fight in finale

Audi are hoping the DTM title is decided with a fair fight at Hockenheim on October 14

The manufacturer withdrew from the last race at Barcelona in the closing stages after a fierce battle with Mercedes, which several team members at Audi felt was too aggressive.

Bruno Spengler's second place moved him into contention for the title, but Mattias Ekstrom and Martin Tomczyk are still in the fight heading to Hockenheim, where they took a 1-2 finish at the start of the season.

"When three drivers are covered by four points, it should be the aim of the DTM to have a clean fight," Tomczyk told autosport.com.

"I hope it will be cleaner, and that will be the aim from our side. We want to have a fair, hard race, and we want to get a 1-2 in the championship."

Audi's head of motorsport Wolfgang Ullrich, who was involved in the decision to withdraw the cars in Barcelona, said that the team were fully focused on Hockenheim now.

"Barcelona is history for us," he said. "We will give out all to get the championship, this would be reward for the strong team performance that we have shown this year.

"We would like to see an exciting and fair touring car finale at Hockenheim. I hope that we see a clean fight, and that the champion is decided by fair means."
