Nakajima returns to Friday driver role

Williams have confirmed that test driver Kazuki Nakajima will drive for them on the Friday of the final two Grands Prix of the season, as they continue to evaluate their driver plans for next year

Although the Grove-based team already have Nico Rosberg under contract for 2008, there has been continued speculation that he could be a target for McLaren if Fernando Alonso leaves them.

And with Alexander Wurz looking increasingly likely to take a test role next season, there is a possibility that Williams could be looking for two new drivers.

But technical director Sam Michael has said that there will be no rush by the team to sort out their drivers, as Nakajima remains a strong candidate because of his close links to engine supplier Toyota.

"Kazuki will drive the Fridays in Shanghai and Brazil," said Williams. "We have got a shortlist of drivers (for next year), but I would not say we are close to making a decision."

When asked whether or not that meant they could wait until the eve of the 2008 season, Michael said: "It wouldn't be too late, but I would be surprised if it was done before the end of the season. It could be a few months though. We need to wait and see how things fall."
