Series to test car changes for Iowa
Drivers from the top teams in the IndyCar Series will test aerodynamic changes at Iowa Speedway in early October
The 0.875-mile oval held its first IndyCar race earlier this year, and several drivers claimed that the track required a different aero package to those currently available to make the racing more entertaining.
The Andretti Green, Penske and Ganassi teams will attend the two-day test, which begins on October 3.
"Iowa Speedway is like nothing else currently on our circuit," said Brian Barnhart, president of the competitions and operations division of the IRL. "It combines the characteristics of a short oval with those of a banked superspeedway.
"While we are quite pleased with the results from our first visit to Iowa, we want to take time this off-season to look at our current aero package for this track."
2007 champion Dario Franchitti, who won the inaugural race at the track this year, claimed at the time that the cars were running with too much downforce, which prevented overtaking.
Barnhart added: "We want to make sure we're providing the best possible on-track product for our drivers and our fans when we return to Iowa Speedway next season."
