Dennis: Mosley comments misunderstood

Ron Dennis says there was a misunderstanding in the way Max Mosley's comments about his involvement in the spy scandal were interpreted

Mosley was widely believed to have questioned Dennis's dealing with the FIA during the spying affair, suggesting the McLaren boss was not telling him the whole truth on the affair.

Dennis, however, claimed on Saturday afternoon that there had been a misunderstanding in how Mosley's remarks had been interpreted, including by himself, and said both McLaren and the FIA were planning to put out press releases to clarify the situation.

The pair met immediately after qualifying to discuss what had happened. Afterwards, they shook hands in a photo-shoot that took place outside the team's Brand Centre.

"I was pretty upset by my interpretation," Dennis told reporters at Spa. "The FIA and McLaren will put out press releases independent of each other. I think what occurred was that there was a misunderstanding of one particular part of this by Max, and we met.

"We very constructively talked about it and as you can see by the photo opportunity, we made it very clear what each other's position was. I think this matter, as regards what Max said and I said, we should put it to one side and address it with the releases that will come out.

"We have tried to be, and I've been open and honest about everything, totally cooperative with the FIA process and I am always hyper sensitive to my integrity. But I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding that will be reflected in the statements."

He added: "It was the truth as I understood it to be at the point at which I made the phone call to Max, and which I said it had been retracted, I was telling the truth. That is where this confusion happened. I don't think Max was challenging my word."
