Hulkenberg wins Nurburgring race 1

Nico Hulkenberg dominated round 13 of the F3 Euro Series from pole position, leading from start to finish to win by over nine seconds in his ASM entry

Last season's A1GP star for Team Germany made a perfect start from pole to lead Mucke Motorsport duo Edoardo Piscopo and Sebastien Buemi into the first corner. James Jakes (Manor Motorsport) held fourth, ahead of series leader Romain Grosjean (ASM).

Hulkenberg steadily pulled away from the pack, enjoying a 6.6-second advantage when Piscopo, who was yet to score a point in the series, gave way to teammate Buemi, who is second in the standings.

This meant Piscopo had to fend off Jakes to the finish, but the closest the Briton got was a lunge at the NGK chicane that caused him to take the corner in a straight line.

A good battle for fourth between Grosjean and Renger van der Zande (Prema) was resolved when the latter lunged in the Mercedes Arena, making contact and spinning back to an eventual 19th.

Grosjean continued to fifth, which reduces his points lead over Buemi to five, ahead of Maxi Gotz (RC Motorsport), who took three points for Volkswagen on their return to F3. Gotz, who started sixth, ran wide at the first corner.

Gotz had dropped out of the points, but a collision ahead of him between Kamui Kobayashi (ASM) and Yelmer Buurman (Manor) caused the former to spin down the order and the latter was given a drive-thru penalty.

Van der Zande's spin promoted Gotz to sixth, ahead of Dani Clos (Signature) and Harald Schlegelmilch, who not only took HS Technik's first point of the season but also pole position for the reverse grid race.
