Hulkenberg on Nurburgring pole

Nico Hulkenberg will start round 13 of the F3 Euro Series from pole position after dominating qualifying at the Nurburgring

ASM ace Hulkenberg set his time on his first run on new rubber, lapping in 1:22.911, some four tenths clear of the opposition.

Sebastien Buemi was next up, until he was toppled from the front row after the chequered flag by his Mucke Motorsport teammate Edoardo Piscopo.

Piscopo, who hasn't scored a point all season, lapped in 1:23.188, however the stewards appear to have rejected the lap time, dropping him back behind Buemi to third on the 1:23.317 he set a lap earlier.

Buemi, who is nine points behind series leader Romain Grosjean (ASM), thus gets to keep his front row spot, while Grosjean is back in fifth, behind Piscopo and James Jakes (Manor).

Sergey Afanasiev was a surprising sixth fastest for HBR, ahead of Manor's Yelmer Buurman, who was seventh fastest but will start 17th after changing his engine after free practice.

This promoted Maxi Gotz - driving the first of the Volkswagen-powered cars as the marque makes its return to F3.

Gotz (RC Motorsport) was almost a second off the pole position pace, but that is enough for a fourth row start. His teammate Jonathan Summerton will start 12th.
