Q & A with Fernando Alonso

Q. Fernando, we missed you yesterday. Where were you?

Fernando Alonso: In the hotel.

Q. So what was going on? Meetings? Crisis talks?

FA: No. I had a meeting with Ron (Dennis) and Norbert (Haug) and we tried to speak about what happened in Hungary. We tried to move forward, and I tried to clarify everything.

Everything is okay. The past is the past and what happened in Hungary, it is not the right time to think about it now. With six races to go we need to try and win the championship and we need to think about Turkey now.

Q. So the situation between Lewis and you? Are you talking to each other now?

FA: Yes. Of course. I talked with Lewis yesterday as well. Not to laugh, because it is not a funny thing, but about how we have been in the press all summer, creating this fight between each other. I have no problems with him at all and he has no problems with me at all.

After what happened in Hungary, we talked to each other. And everything is so clear. We try to understand about why everybody wants to put us in a fight, because it is just not true.

Q. How can you avoid such crucial situations in the future?

FA: I don't know. I think I am driving the car and I am doing what the team tells me. So it is more to the team to control a little bit more any problematic situation but I think we learned lessons from the last race so everything will be much better from now on.

Q. What lessons did you learn from the last race? Will you change anything if you were in the same situation again?

FA: They will probably not let us go at the same time in qualifying, and things like that. I don't know, but for sure the team and everybody - we will try to do a better job.

Q. The media release issued this morning said there would be a 'constructive' way of working together. What does this mean?

FA: I don't know. Really. What is sure is that we talked about Hungary and we all agreed that what happened in Hungary should not be repeated any more and that we should concentrate to try to beat the Ferraris. And that is the aim. With six races to go we are in a very good position to win the championship, drivers' and constructors', so we need to think about Turkey and the future to try and win the championship.

Q. It is hot in Turkey here. How would you describe the atmosphere in the team. Is it hot too?

FA: It is not as hot as you write every day. I think everybody tried to create this tension between us. But we spoke yesterday, and we spoke in the summer about this situation and how the atmosphere creates this fighting between each other and it is not the truth. Obviously we try to win, we are very competitive, but it is not the truth. Everything is normal. It is a normal atmosphere in the team.

Q. How was practice?

FA: It was okay. I think the circuit conditions were very, very bad today. It was windy and the track condition was quite poor, so we saw a lot of people going off the track and it was not easy to drive the car. But in terms of performance we are there, we are very close to the Ferraris and it will be a very interesting weekend in front of us again.
