Checa unsure about Ducati test offer

Carlos Checa has revealed that Ducati would like to recruit him as a test rider next season, but he would prefer to continue racing

The Spanish veteran, who raced for Ducati in 2005, has had a difficult 2007 season on the LCR Honda.

"I have an offer from Ducati to be their test rider and do some races as a wild card, but I want to focus on the races we have left," Checa told Motociclismo magazine.

"After that I'll decide, and if the only thing we have is that from Ducati, then I'll see, because honestly I'm not crazy about it.

"I have a very good relationship with Ducati, but what I want is to race and find continuity for the years I have left because I feel very good."

With many younger riders set to join the field next year, there is some doubt over Checa's racing future.

But the 34-year-old said he had offers from teams, and believes that the more experienced riders will still find places on the grid.

"I still have an option with Kawasaki if they field a third bike, and we have to see what is Honda planning to do for next year," Checa said.

"It's obvious that there are young riders coming in, but they also need experienced riders who can work things out on a technical level, and I think there are few riders with my experience and that's why Ducati want me to be their tester.

"But I'm not thinking about that option. It would be good for the day I retire, but I want to keep racing because I think I can do more than what you have seen this year."

Checa is currently 15th in the standings, having only taken one top six finish so far this year as all the customer Hondas struggled for speed.
