Villa wants to improve qualifying
Javier Villa has said that he wants to improve his qualifying performances so that he can compete at the front during the Saturday races in GP2
The Spaniard became only the second driver of the season to take two race victories when he won Sunday's race at the Nurburgring, however both of his wins have come in reverse grid races.
The 19-year-old's best qualifying performance of the year was a 13th place at Magny-Cours, where he went on to finish seventh to earn a front row start for race two, where he took his maiden victory.
However, Villa has admitted that he wants to become a genuine frontrunner throughout the whole weekend.
"I think we have to work a lot on qualifying," Villa said after last weekend's Nurburgring races. "Saturday we had a good rhythm, and Sunday a good rhythm, but we need a good qualifying.
"We need to race with (Timo) Glock, with (Lucas) di Grassi, together, because they have a lot of experience and that is good for me."
Villa believes that his inexperience is one of the reasons for his struggles in qualifying, as the teams only have one 30-minute practice session to get the cars ready for the weekend.
"I don't know what is difficult, but half of the problem is that it is new to us," he said. "We come to a circuit and in qualifying we are 15th, maybe 20th.
"We have to work race by race with the data, gain more experience, and then I think we can go to the next races more hard."
Villa is currently eighth in the GP2 standings, although only four of his 21 points have been scored in the Saturday races.
