Alonso now eyeing Hungary win

World champion Fernando Alonso says he wants to win the next race in Hungary to show McLaren have made progress with their car

The Spaniard took his third win of the season at the Nurburgring on Sunday, but he only moved into the lead when the rain hit the German track. Before that, Ferrari's Felipe Massa looked set for race victory, the Italian squad's third in as many races.

Alonso now wants to win in Hungary next week to prove McLaren can also beat Ferrari in dry conditions.

"In Hungary it would be good to win in the dry," he told AS newspaper. "More than anything to see that we have improved the car a bit and because Hungary suits the McLaren very well.

"It's a slower circuit, like Monaco. In the last few races they (Ferrari) have been three tenths per lap quicker."

The Spaniard gained ten points on championship leader Lewis Hamilton after his victory, and the double champion is now just two behind the Briton.

Alonso, however, reckons his victory is not the inflection point of his season.

"I don't think so," he added. "As I always said, the championship is long and whoever is more consistent or stronger in the 17 races will win the title.

"Sometimes things go right, other times they don't. This time everything worked well and we took advantage of it, unlike other times. I will remain the same. I'll try to be on the podium and finish ahead of everybody else."
