Bourdais cautious on possible F1 move

Sebastien Bourdais thinks it is too early to judge if he will be handed a race seat at Scuderia Toro Rosso next year, despite his latest test for the team

The three-time Champ Car champion has been strongly linked with a switch to F1 next season, and his test at Spa-Francorchamps is widely acknowledged as being a final evaluation run for him.

Bourdais thinks there is still plenty to be resolved before agreeing an F1 role, however, as he ponders whether to remain in Champ Car again next year.

"It is all about timing and opportunities," said the Frenchman. "Obviously I am grateful for the team to give me a chance to show what I can do. We've done that, and I had a lot of fun doing it. It is great, but nothing is automatic in this game.

"There are lots of things that come to the table, so we have to wait and see if the package is interesting enough. Whether or not they need me, and what I can offer them. We have to wait and see."

Bourdais believes he should get an answer from Toro Rosso's chiefs by the end of this month as to whether or not they want him in F1 next season.

When asked whether the latest test had made him more convinced than ever about making a switch, he said: "Am I more convinced of what? I mean, it has always been something I wanted to do. That is the reason I am here.

"Now, is it going to happen or not? It is impossible to say, and we will see. Like I said, I am just taking all the considerations to do my job, have a good time and enjoy myself. There is not much else I can do anyway."
