Interview with Ernesto Viso

Q: Ernesto, first thing's first, it's fantastic to see you back here in the paddock. How are you feeling?

Ernesto Viso: I'm feeling a bit sore, and for sure it was a big accident, but I'm fine. I have no problems, I'm just a bit high still from all the drugs they gave me in the hospital! I just need to wait a couple of hours to get back to a normal situation, and I'm sure I'll have some normal pain, but I'm also sure that I'm going to recover quick.

Q: What actually happened in the incident?

Viso: Well, after seeing the videos and talking to people I can realise that there was a yellow flag, but I didn't see it because I was behind those cars and they just braked: we were going at high speed and I couldn't do anything. I just touched the car in front and was flying.

Q: Do you remember any of it at all?

Viso: Well the last thing I remember was when I was flying, and I remember that my steering wheel was very light, but after that I have a black out for maybe 45 minutes: I don't remember anything.

Q: I'm sure you know you were very lucky, and also I know that you're a very religious person: was it something you thought about in that respect?

Viso: No, I don't want to put religion in my racing: everyone has their own things to think about, and racing is racing. I just feel fortunate that I'm back and nothing happened to me: that's it, and let's see what's going to happen next.

Q: You'll obviously be out for a few weeks now, but are you looking forward to getting back into the cockpit?

Viso: Well I don't know what's going to happen, but I need to see the FIA doctors and take a decision with them: I don't know yet what is going to be the situation in even 24 hours after the accident. For sure I have to get stable again, and I don't know what's going to happen: I just need to pass their tests.

Q: Considering the ferocity of the accident, what are your thoughts on the car?

Viso: It's amazing! It was a huge shunt, and I have bruises just on my hand and one of my feet: that's it. It's amazing: it was a really big crash, and everything seems good.

Q: On the bright side, I heard that you got to meet a few nurses you wouldn't have otherwise met!

Viso: [laughs] Yeah! No, they were all nice and took really good care of me: I have to thank them a lot for everything they did for me while I was in the hospital, and also to the FIA medics and the track staff who looked after me immediately after the accident and when I got to the circuit medical centre.
