Elias undergoes successful surgery
Toni Elias will fly back to his Barcelona home in a medical-equipped plane tomorrow after successfully undergoing surgery on his broken left femur
The Spaniard sustained the injury in a practice crash at Assen yesterday.
The bones were re-set using metal plates by Dr Wiesmar at the Wilhelmina hospital. Dr Claudio Costa from the MotoGP Clinica Mobile and Barcelon specialist Dr Xavier Mir advised Dr Wiesmer by telephone during the procedure.
"Post-operation analysis has confirmed the success of the operation," said Dr Costa.
"The femur bones have settled in well and Toni can now start his programme of painkillers, anti-biotics and anti-clotting medication."
Elias was in good spirits as he began his recovery.
"I'm better although I didn't sleep much last night because they had to wake me every two hours to administer medicine," he said.
"But I don't feel too bad and I just can't wait to get home to Barcelona and start my rehabilitation as soon as possible.
"I want to say thanks to Doctor Costa and all the Clinica Mobile staff for their continuing support."
Initial indications suggest that Elias will be out of action for a minimum of three months.
