Tracy wins eventful Cleveland race
Paul Tracy scored one of the most remarkable wins of his career when he drove to victory on the second anniversary of his previous Champ Car win
The Forsythe Championship Racing driver, who twice had to stop for a new front wing after collisions with Graham Rahal and Bruno Junqueira, was put on to an alternative strategy and held off the faster car of Robert Doornbos to the chequered flag.
The two more likely winners of the event, Will Power and Sebastien Bourdais, each suffered problems beyond their control.
Power was leading Bourdais by 5.5 seconds, when the Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing had a sudden and complete loss of oil pressure, probably from a broken centrifuge. Later the Team Australia car suffered a broken valve stem in his right-front tyre, and had it deflate.
Doornbos, whose Team Minardi USA were very fast, was hampered when he got a drive-through pit penalty for blocking tactics and spent the rest of the race catching up.
Rahal's pit strategy after being hit by Tracy came up around two laps short. He was pressing Tracy for the lead when he ducked into the pits for splash and dash. He eventually finished eighth.
Inspired strategy under yellows sent Neel Jani into third, while Justin Wilson (RSPORTS) and Simon Pagenaud (Team Australia) filled out the top five.
