Roger Lee Hayden set for third Kawasaki

Kawasaki's MotoGP team are close to finalising plans to run a third bike for Roger Lee Hayden later this season, but are awaiting confirmation from the American before pressing ahead with the deal

Hayden, brother of MotoGP champion Nicky, has been offered the chance to race as a wildcard entry at the United States Grand Prix - and could also compete at the preceding event at the Sachsenring to get himself up to speed.

He currently races in the AMA Superbike series in America, and autosport.com understands that the chance to race in the American MotoGP round comes on the back of the offer of another contract to stay with his US based Kawasaki team. It is believed that that deal will need to be signed very soon.

His commitments in that championship also mean that he could be racing in two series at Laguna Seca, as the AMA races are a support category for the MotoGP event.

Hayden's management insist that nothing has been agreed yet, but they admit they are considering the deal that was first offered to them at the French Grand Prix.

"At this point, nothing has been set in stone, but it is certainly good that Kawasaki are considering Roger Lee to ride in America," a management source told autosport.com.

The fact that Kawasaki are offering the MotoGP ride to the American shows how serious they are about keeping him in their AMA Superbike team.
