H10: LMP2 leaders drop one by one

It seems as though the leader of the LMP2 class is destined to run into trouble at some point

After Warren Hughes brought the Quifel Team ASM Lola into pit road for a long stop, Haruki Kurosawa took over the lead of the class before the Barazi Epsilon car suffered fuel pressure problems.

That handed the lead to the Binnie Motorsports Lola, but it, too, had a long stop, which handed the lead to Vitaly Petrov in the Courage.

At the end of the hour, though, he too went into the garage as the team struggled to find neutral.

The Binnie Motorsport team therefore go into the 11th hour leading the class of the last man standing.

Up front, Audi's Dindo Capello has stretched his lead to three laps over teammate Frank Biela, who handed the No. 1 car to Emanuele Pirro after a mammoth four-hour stint.

The Audi pair continued to lap at a similar pace to each other. Marc Gene, in the mean time, has stepped in for Nicolas Minassian in the third-placed Peugeot.

Johnny Herbert took over the leading Aston Martin from Tomas Enge, who is still recovering from his elbow injury suffered in an ALMS accident at St Petersberg in April.

As the clock struck 1:00 am, Jos Menten stopped the Team Modena Aston Martin DBR9.

Darren Turner set a new class record in the second-placed Aston Martin with 3:50.789 as he trailed the class leader by a minute.

In GT2, Mika Salo took over the leading Risi Ferrari from Jaime Melo ahead of Andrew Kirkaldy in the Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari, but Johannes van Overbeek brought the fifth-placed Flying Lizard Porsche into the pits with a gearbox problem.

"We lost sixth gear and we are not allowed to change the transmission," he said.

Jean-Marc Gounon's Courage was also pushed into the garage, though he returned to the action after a brief delay.
