Massa left hoping for faster Ferrari

Brazilian Felipe Massa reckons his Ferrari team still need to push harder to be closer to their main rivals McLaren, despite faring better in qualifying at Indianapolis

Massa will start the race from third place behind the two Mercedes-powered cars of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso at a track where Ferrari have usually dominated in the past.

Ferrari showed better form than in Canada last weekend, with Kimi Raikkonen qualifying in fourth, but Massa admitted being closer to their rivals was not enough for him.

"For sure we are a bit closer but not enough, we need to be in front not closer," said Massa. "But for sure the situation is a bit better than Canada.

"Canada was a difficult weekend for us, starting on the second row is not a disaster. We know McLaren are going to be strong in the race as they were in every race, we need to work hard, we need to fight until the end and that is what we are going to do tomorrow."

Despite Indianapolis being a favourable track for Ferrari, Massa admitted he was not surprised to see Hamilton and Alonso dominate again.

"When you saw them in front in the last two races you cannot say this is a surprise because they were already a surprise," he added. "We expected to be a little bit better than Canada.

"I don't know if it is enough to win the race tomorrow but we need to fight and thinking for the next race already, that we have two weekend, two weeks to work on the car, and it will be crucial to bring the best we can to the next race. We are better than Canada and confident for tomorrow as well."
