Vettel happy after first day of work
Sebastien Vettel was pleased with his first day of work at Indianapolis, where the young German will make his Grand Prix debut this weekend
The BMW Sauber test driver is standing in for Pole Robert Kubica, who was not given the green light to race in the US following his massive crash in Montreal.
Vettel, driving at Indianapolis for the first time today, shone during first practice, posting the fourth quickest time. In the afternoon he was 11th.
"Obviously it was going quite good, we did a lot of mileage and we were able to find out a lot about the tyres and about the set-up of the car so we just try to progress and I think it is a normal Friday as usual," said Vettel.
"Of course it is a completely new task for me. So far I am quite happy with what I did so I think now is about working together with the team to get the maximum."
Nineteen-year-old Vettel, racing in the World Series by Renault this season, admitted he has not set any goals for his maiden Grand Prix.
"Expectations, I don't have to be honest," said the German. "Today was important to get used to the car and get adapted. We will see tomorrow after qualifying. You could see in Montreal we were quite quick and here we are not so bad, so we will see."
