Kristensen set for fitness test

Tom Kristensen will announce on Monday if he is fit enough to compete in this year's Le Mans 24 Hours

The Dane has been out of action since his accident in the DTM race at Hockenheim in April, and he has not driven a racing car since the crash.

Kristensen missed the pre-event test one week ago, but Audi have waited as long as they can to make a final decision.

Audi's head of motorsport Wolfgang Ullrich told autosport.com: "Monday is the latest that we can make the decision, so we cannot wait any longer."

Ullrich added that Audi would not take any risks with Kristensen's health, despite his value to the team.

"We will not risk Tom if he is not ready. We will listen to the decision of the doctors, and if there is any potential danger to Tom then he will not race."

Mattias Ekstrom will be added to Audi's Le Mans line-up if Kristensen cannot race, and the Swede admitted that he was pleased to get the experience of driving the R10 at the test, even if he does not race it.

"The good thing is that I now have the experience of driving this car at Le Mans," Ekstrom told autosport.com. "That is something worth having."
