Kristensen set to miss Brands Hatch

Tom Kristensen will miss the next DTM round at Brands Hatch as he continues to recover from his crash at Hockenheim

The Dane has missed the races at Oschersleben and Lausitz since his  accident in the season-opener, and Audi have taken the decision that he should continue to rest.

A statement from Audi said: "Tom must continue his enforced break. Formula One test driver Markus Winkelhock will again stand in for the Dane as he did at Lausitz."

Winkelhock struggled at Lausitz before he eventually hit the wall while battling with Mathias Lauda, but he is hoping to improve if he gets a second outing.

"At Eurospeedway, things did not run perfectly for me," he said. "At Brands Hatch I want to get a good result for Audi.

"Last time I was able to improve during free practice, reducing the gap to my teammates. However, I was not able to continue this trend in qualifying and the race."

Kristensen also remains a doubt for the Le Mans 24 Hours, which takes place just a week after the Brands Hatch DTM round.

2004 DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom has been lined up to stand in alongside Dindo Capello and Allan McNish in case the seven-time Le Mans winner is not fit, and he will take part in this Sunday's pre-event test as well.

Capello is hoping that he will get to share the car with Kristensen, although he admitted that they haven't spoken to each other much in recent weeks.

"Since he had his accident we only communicated through SMS," Capello was quoted as saying by Italian magazine Autosprint.

"When you hit your head it's always hard to quantity the problem until you're back behind the wheel. I hope Tom will be there."
