Renault to run new front wing in Monaco

Renault are to introduce a new front wing in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix in a bid to secure their best result of the season so far

With Fisichella having set the fifth quickest time in second free practice on Thursday, despite a crash in the morning that forced him to switch cars, the reigning world champions are bullish about their chances for this weekend's race.

And hopes have been boosted with the team due to get delivery of the new front wing for tomorrow. It is hoped the new design, which has just been signed off at Renault's Enstone factory, will produce more downforce to help boost the R27's speed.

Team boss Flavio Briatore told Gazzetta dello Sport: "We are happy. Fisichella's mistake didn't mean anything, the car's progress is evident, and there will be a further important modification for qualifying.

"We can fight for the top two or three rows. And from now one it'll always be like this; we've had some problems, but we are recovering."

Fisichella is hopeful that the wing will deliver improvements. He said: "I think we can improve further with it."
