Audetto: point justifies customer cars
Super Aguri's managing director Daniel Audetto believes his team's maiden point in Formula One shows why customer cars will help the sport in the future
The Japanese squad, running a version of last year's Honda RA106, grabbed their first point at last Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix thanks to Takuma Sato finishing in eighth position.
The team needed only 22 races to get their first point, something made easier by using the base of last year's Honda car, with which Jenson Button scored his maiden Grand Prix win.
Audetto believes their results show that chassis sharing can only help Formula One have a more competitive field.
When asked if the point proves that customer cars have a place in F1, Audetto said: "The idea to have customer cars will also help not only Super Aguri but the whole of F1 because we will have 24 competitive cars.
"The costs now are enormous and I think that without the help of Honda we wouldn't be here at all," Audetto told autosport.com.
"So (customers cars) make it simpler, more legal, more cost effective and improve the show, because we also have to think that F1 is not just technology, it is also a show. I think it is the way to go."
