BMW sure gearbox problem is solved
BMW motorsport boss Mario Theissen says the team have solved the gearbox problem that forced Nick Heidfeld into retirement at the Spanish Grand Prix
The German driver, who had finished the first three races of the season in fourth place, was unable to repeat his performance after a troubled pitstop in which one of his front wheels was not properly secured.
Heidfeld later retired with a gearbox problem, but he was already out of contention for a points finish.
BMW Sauber, however, found the cause of the problem before the race was over and are convinced there will be no repeat of that in next week's race in Monaco.
"We managed to get to the bottom of the gearbox problem in Nick's F1.07 in Barcelona before the race day was over, and corrective measures were already being applied during the test in Paul Ricard," said Theissen.
"We have also worked through Nick's botched-up pitstop and learnt the lessons for any future incidents.
"For us in Monte Carlo it's a case of notching up a fault-free weekend and further cementing our third place in the constructors' standings."
