Grapevine: HWA not ruling out F1 move
German racing car manufacturer HWA have not ruled out a move into Formula One in the future, but insist that there are no immediate plans to make the step up to Grand Prix racing
The Mercedes-Benz affiliated company were at the centre of rumours in Malaysia linking them with a possible buy in of Scuderia Toro Rosso, but team co-owner Gerhard Berger made it clear that had no interest in selling up.
And although sources are adamant that HWA representatives did sound out Toro Rosso about a deal, company shareholder Christian Wolff has made it clear that they are not looking at any swift jump to F1.
"Formula One can only be a subject for us if there are three basic goals set," said Wolff. "We have to have a partner, we should earn money and we have to have a sporting chance.
"I find it ridiculous that every year we talk about B-team projects like the one of Jean Alesi (who led a plan for a Direxiv-backed McLaren B-team), but F1 is currently not on the agenda."
HWA currently make DTM cars and Formula Three engines for Mercedes-Benz.
