Wurz leads last day in Barcelona

Alex Wurz was comfortably fastest on the final day of Williams and Spyker's Barcelona test

The two teams had remained in Europe while the other nine Formula One squads ran at Bahrain this week.

As had been the case on the previous two days of testing, the two Williams finished first and second ahead of the Spykers.

Wurz was eight tenths of a second ahead of the team's test driver Kazuki Nakajima, who had taken the place of Tuesday and Wednesday pacesetter Nico Rosberg. Both drivers were focusing on final set-up preparations for Melbourne.

Test team manager Dickie Stanford took the opportunity to thank the squad for their efforts over the winter.

"Thanks are due to the factory and the race and test team for all of the hard work that has been done over the last few months and has progressed the cars to this stage," he said.

Adrian Sutil was the faster of the Spyker duo, outpacing Christijan Albers by 0.6 seconds.

Their programme was slightly disrupted by mechanical problems, but they were able to complete set-up work, tyre testing and evaluation of new aerodynamic and control system parts.

"Although we know we are lacking some pace, I think we can be very proud of the improvements we've made," said technical director Mike Gascoyne.

Today's testing times:

Pos Driver Team Time Laps
 1. Wurz Williams-Toyota (B) 1:21.748 59
 2. Nakajima Williams-Toyota (B) 1:22.509 79
