Korea unveils GP promoting committee
South Korea has moved a step closer in its plans to host a Formula One race in 2010 after finalising the promoting committee for the event
Race organisers held a press conference in Seoul today where fifty of the country's leading political leaders vowed to assist the regional Jeollanam-do Provincial Government and race promoters Korea Auto Valley Operation
The main promotion committee members are six Congressmen, including Mr. Hyuk Kyu Kim (Senior Congressman, Major Ruling Party), Mr. Jong Min Kim (CEO of Korea Tourism Organization), Mr. Ki Hwa Hong (President of Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency), Mr. Jung Chae Kang (President of Jeonnam University), Mr. Jae Cheol Kim(Secretary General of Korea Sports Council and Korea Olympic Committee), and Mr. Junho Jung (Actor, Formula One PR Ambassador).
Kyu Kim, who was elected chairman of the committee said: "Hosting a Grand Prix is essential to develop the province and raise the global awareness of the nation."
F1 track designer Hermann Tilke is designing a 5.45-km (3.39 mile) track in the southwestern region of South Cholla for the 2010 race. The cost is estimated to be in excess of $250 million.
