Toyota target first win with TF107

Toyota have targeted scoring their first Formula One victory this season at the unveiling of their new TF107 on Friday

The Japanese car manufacturer had a difficult 2006 season, where they failed to recapture the form that had seen them take several podium finishes the year before.

However, the team are clear that they want to make a step forward to form during the forthcoming season and claim their maiden victory in their sixth year of F1 competition.

Speaking on stage in Cologne, team president John Howett said: "I have been working at Toyota for more than 30 years and the one thing I have appreciated is Toyota's willingness to accept big challenges.

"Panasonic Toyota Racing, its creation and entry into F1, is a good example of that willingness to accept big challenges. We are challenging to create the next chapter in Toyota's motor sport activities.

"It is too early to talk about world championships and the first major challenge we have is to achieve that first elusive win. And that really is the target we have for 2007.

"We set ourselves extremely challenging targets. It was clear in 2006 we under delivered and our results were unsatisfactory. We take heart from the fact that we started slow, finished quick but had too many reliability problems.

"But we are creating a world class team which will help us achieve our aim of winning a race this year."

Jarno Trulli said that the indications from the factory were that the TF107 is a big step forward over last year's car.

"I believe we can be successful for the future," he said. "I am always very optimistic for each new season and each new car. I have heard many good things from the engineers; it has made huge steps in terms of downforce in the tunnel and mechanics in general.

"So I expect better results than the previous team. But we have to get on track before we can judge."

Ralf Schumacher added: "Clearly everyone is asking me about the championship -- and that is certainly the final wish. But for the moment we are really hungry to get the first win for us, the team and all the people who have worked so hard for the past years."
