Teams receive their new cars
Champ Car teams have taken delivery of their new Panoz DP01 cars, after they arrived earlier this week at the series headquarters in Indianapolis
The machines were handed over to each outfit, with Champ Car president Steve Johnson saying the moment represented the beginning of the new campaign.
"We look at today as the actual start of the 2007 season," he said. "This has been an exciting process, watching the new Champ Car take shape.
"From the first design sketches to wind tunnel testing and now to see the cars going to our teams, it has been a very rewarding experience for all of us and I couldn't be happier about the way our team as well as the team from Elan Motorsports Technologies have performed throughout the process."
The DP01 has already been tested by former Champ Car driver Robert Moreno, as well as putting in demonstration runs in Australia, Mexico and China.
New batches of cars will continue to be constructed over the winter until the target of 35 chassis is hit before the start of the 2007 campaign.
