Vauxhall to race Vectra next year

Vauxhall have confirmed that they will switch to using the Vectra model in the British Touring Car Championship next year

The VX Racing team came to the decision after considering several models for 2007, as the BTCC switches to Super 2000-spec cars.

The team have struggled to repeat their championship winning form from 2001-2004 since switching to the Astra Sport Hatch model at the beginning of 2005, and they only won two races this year.

VX Racing brand manager Stuart Harris said: "2007 is going to be a tough year with another new car to develop and get on stream.

"The only team who are not at a disadvantage are SEAT. Their car is the same as last year, and they will benefit from the development from World Touring Car Championship, whereas we have to do it all ourselves."

Vauxhall compared the Vectra to the Astra that has raced for the past two years, and even tested the much smaller Corsa model before deciding that the Vectra offered the best package.

The new car will be unveiled at the Autosport International show on January 11th.
