Ferrari close to new engine deals
Ferrari are on the verge of completing long-term customer engine contracts with Scuderia Toro Rosso and Spyker-MF1, autosport.com has learned
Following the FIA's decision to allow Ferrari to supply two teams in 2008, with the limit of one customer outfit originally laid down in the regulations, moves are now being made to finalise contracts with the two teams.
Spyker-MF1 currently only have a contract for 2007 confirmed, but sources have confirmed that options laid out in the deal signed in China will now be taken up to extend the contract for up to three more years.
A source close to the team said: "Nothing is official yet, but we are fine. We just need to wait for an announcement now."
The future of Ferrari's current deal with Red Bull Racing has been the subject of intense speculation for several months, with the team openly trying to get out of the contract so it can switch to Renault power-units.
Although Ferrari had previously been reluctant to change the terms of the deal and move their supply to Toro Rosso, autosport.com has learned that a contract is now close to being signed.
It is likely that in exchange for Ferrari agreeing to move their supply, Toro Rosso will lengthen the current one-year deal for another one or two seasons.
Agreement on that matter has not been reached yet, but it is understood that a deal could be completed in the next few weeks.
A Toro Rosso-Ferrari deal would mean that Red Bull Racing will use Renault power plants next season.
