Power wants first podium at home

Will Power is chasing his maiden podium finish on home soil this weekend at Surfers Paradise

The Australian made his debut at the event one year ago, and has had a strong first season in Champ Car, where he leads the rookie standings and lies seventh overall, just 11 points back from fourth.

While Power wants to put on a spectacular show at his home race, he admits that his championship situation means he won't be doing anything too dramatic.

"This is the place for me to really try to get my first podium," he said. "It's my home race and my team's home race, so I'll be doing everything I can to get our car up the front.

"But I've got my championship position to think about so I won't be doing anything silly."

Power has been close to a podium finish already this season, and while his rookie rival Dan Clarke has already made the top three this year, he is determined to do the same before the season is out.

"I've had this race in the back of my mind all year," said Power. "This is the first track this year that I have already raced at, and I've been getting quicker all year as I understand the cars more.

"We had a really strong car at the last race, and everything is looking good for us to have a strong weekend in front of the Australian fans."
