Coulthard: Massa crash cost me point
David Coulthard was disappointed after missing out on a points finish at the Chinese Grand Prix following a crash with Felipe Massa
The Brazilian Ferrari driver collided with the Scot when trying to pass him for eighth position with less than 10 laps to go.
The move seemed overoptimistic, however, and both men crashed, resulting in Massa's retirement and Coulthard's car being damaged.
The Red Bull driver struggled with his car's handling after that and finished outside the points in ninth.
"That was a tough race," said Coulthard. "At the beginning, my intermediate tyres had quite a lot of graining and I was being passed left, right and centre. I was also heavy on fuel. But as the track dried, the tyres wore down and it all came good so I was very quick at that point. Unfortunately I later had an incident with Massa.
"Two or three laps before, he'd come down the inside of my car, but I managed to avoid him. He tried the same again, which resulted in us colliding. I'm disappointed as it damaged my car. I lost steering assistance in left hand corners, so it was pulling to the left.
"I was able to still go quick, but had difficulty braking at the hairpin and ran wide, which allowed Mark to pass. That was us out of the points."
Robert Doornbos, making his racing debut with Red Bull, finished in 12th position despite having started from the top ten.
"That was pretty exciting for my first race with Red Bull, but I was hoping for a bit more having started tenth on the grid," he said. "It was tight going into Turn one, I touched Kubica's car and lost time when I had to come in the pits to change the front wing. But it was good fun after that.
"I passed eleven people on the track, which was a good performance on used intermediates. We got the switch right changing to dry tyres, did the job and finished the race. I'm looking forward to the next one."
