Durban date switched to Kyalami

According to series CEO Scott Poulter, a replacement event is planned for March 2007 at Kyalami, scene of the highly successful inaugural November 2005 event, which attracted 80,000 spectators.

"Following discussions with our South African promoter, it became obvious that our options for the hoped-for race in Durban were not as clear cut (as originally hoped)," said Poulter.

"It's a great pity, but it seems an ideal opportunity to return the race to Kyalami, close to sponsor Altech's base in Johannesburg, who then asked us to delay the event by three months."

He disclosed that wide-ranging discussions with new technical partners, including alternate engine and tyre suppliers, and additional drivers and venues had been held since the last event at Silverstone. Announcements could be expected within the next month, he added.

The series has had a troubled start, with the Qatari race being blighted by marshalling problems, and a round planned for Monza in June falling foul of noise level litigation.

August's British event was hit by unseasonal weather, with reliability problems - following a crankshaft redesign by engine supplier Nicholson McLaren Engines - adding to Poulter's woes.

"It's been a tumultuous start, however what we do see is a substantial amount of support for the series from partners, drivers and fans alike," he said.

"There clearly exists a lot of potential for the series and we are looking forward to a solid 2007."

Poulter indicated that up to six rounds were being planned for 2007, mainly at 'traditional' circuits.
