Da Matta could return to Miami soon
Cristiano da Matta could return home to Miami soon, as he continues to recover from the injuries he suffered when he hit a deer during testing at Road America
The Brazilian has spent the last six weeks recovering at the Theda Clark Medical Centre in Neenah, Wisconsin, and he has now been transferred to the facility's rehabilitation unit.
Champ Car medical director Dr. Chris Pinderski visited Da Matta this week to monitor his condition and is impressed by how his recovery is going.
"Cristiano has continued to show excellent progress while recovering from his injury," said Pinderski.
"Early last week, he was transferred to the rehab unit at Theda Clark Medical Center where he is participating in a very intensive rehabilitation regimen designed specifically for patients with significant head injuries.
"Cristiano is looking forward to returning to Miami in the near future and will continue his rehab program there."
Da Matta's RuSPORT team will run with the logos of the Theda Clark Medical Centre and the Champ Car Safety team on Justin Wilson's car at the Road America race next weekend.
The team are also holding a charity auction and bike ride at the event to raise money for charities that will help da Matta's recovery.
