Kubica on top at busy Monza

All Formula One teams and a massive 20 drivers took part on the second day of testing at the Monza circuit, where BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica topped the times

Under clear skies and higher temperatures than yesterday, the Pole continued to impress following his Grand Prix debut in Hungary and finished the day on top of the times with a best lap of 1:22.244.

Kubica was slightly faster than Italian Renault driver Giancarlo Fisichella, who today was joined by world champion Fernando Alonso as Renault continued with their preparations for the final races of the season.

Alonso was fourth quickest behind Felipe Massa.

Turkish Grand Prix winner Massa, fastest on the first day of work, worked alongside teammate Michael Schumacher, who took over from test driver Luca Badoer at the wheel of the second Ferrari.

Schumacher, whose day was hindered by a hydraulic problem in the morning, posted the sixth fastest time of the day after completed a total of 105 laps as his team focused on tyre testing and set-up work for the Italian Grand Prix.

The Ferrari driver finished behind Williams' Nico Rosberg, who joined Australian Mark Webber. Rosberg worked on testing the new aero package Williams will use in the Monza race, as well as testing several brake cooling options.

Webber, doing tyre testing and set-up work, was 15th fastest and the busiest man on track with a total of 107 laps completed.

The Honda team had their two racing drivers in action today, with Briton Jenson Button posting the seventh fastest time ahead of teammate Rubens Barrichello. The Brazilian tested the engine Honda will use from the start during the 2007 season and finished in ninth place.

Jarno Trulli was tenth quickest for the Toyota team, who today completed limited mileage. Trulli covered 66 laps while teammate Ricardo Zonta completed just 45 on his way to the 12th fastest time of the day.

McLaren's drivers Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett joined the session today, but neither had a very productive day. De la Rosa completed 48 laps and was 16th fastest, with Paffett right behind after 41 laps.

Super Aguri's Sakon Yamamoto, who yesterday failed to set a time after being hit by problems, had a better session and covered 49 laps in his SA06.

Today's session was interrupted 10 times by red flags.
