De la Rosa survives scare for first podium

Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa survived a scare on the formation lap to clinch his first Formula One podium in today's Hungarian Grand Prix

McLaren driver de la Rosa, in his third race of the season after replacing Juan Pablo Montoya, was second behind Briton Jenson Button to score the best result of his career.

De la Rosa's day, however, started with a scare, when he spun his car in the wet during the formation lap. He managed to recover and take his starting position.

"I forgot about the spin on the formation lap," said de la Rosa, who is still hoping to land a racing seat for next season. "I was trying to warm up the rear tyres, but I forgot it soon.

"I calmed myself and did a good start. The car was very good on intermediates, but a bit tricky when it started raining again, there were a couple of times when I nearly spun the car.

"I think today it was like a test Grand Prix, we went through all the type of tyres."

De la Rosa was left wondering what could have been after finishing behind Button, who scored his maiden win.

"Jenson finally does it on the day I finish second. It could have been different."
